Liz Alvis, founder of Portland Creamery, is one of the new wave of Oregon cheesemakers who are making a mark on the local cheese scene. After learning the craft from her mother, cheesemaker Jean Mackenzie of Mackenzie Creamery in Hiram, Ohio, she now makes small batch fresh chevre in a variety of innovative flavors and cajeta, a goats milk caramel, on a goat dairy in Molalla. The herd is nationally known for fine genetics and quality milk, perfect for making cheese.
